Exterior nest for wild seed-eating birds
The best twwo woods out there for building an exterior nest box are cedar and fir. Both are really study and can stand weather change decently. Other types of wood such as pine, plywood, pressure treated lumber, redwood or cypress, don’t weather well and can split and crack easily. And some woods contain formaldehyde.
Wood plank size.
Subtract a quarter to a half inch of gicen size3s of lumber, in order to get the correct size. e.g 1 x 4 in = 3/4 x 3 1/2 in.
Lumber can be obtained in 6, 8, 10, 12. 16 foot lengths and 4 x 4 in posts are usually 8, 10 and 16 foot lengths.
